Whilst we at FC are dedicated to bringing electronic music to the streets of Tokyo, sometimes we like to send one of our agents further afield, to reconnoiter the lay of the land in other parts of Japan. After returning from the frozen north, namely Hakodate undergoing an unusual heatwave, Agent S. had this to say about the town’s nightlife: “Fuckin shit, mate.” Once we’d warmed his poor frozen hands with a bottle of beer, he began to tell a different story - the story of one man, his record collection and love of soul.

Soul Kitchen is about the best bar in Hakodate, our man reports. Not only does the owner, Kawasaki-san have hot and cold running booze on tap, he also has a massive collection of soul, funk and old school hiphop records.
