mmm, wavetable-y

So a while ago, on a mission to Yellow Pop records in Shibuya, I found an interesting disc by Charles Dodge entitled “Earth’s Magnetic Field”.

Not an earth-shattering crescendo of tectonic warping, rather this is a mellow drive from a sine wave to a square wave. Apparently recorded without the aid of a synthesizer, with all the transcriptions from magnetic impulse data to audio being done in the dark vale of Bell Laboratories in 1962 this is a pioneering attempt at environmental music. Heartily recommended to all fans of abstract compositions recorded on fuzzy Super Nintendos.
