It’s the sound of a Friday night suburb. It’s the joyous child of funk and disco. It’s stripped down breakbeats popping in the silicon brains of drum machines. It’s a bassline that pisses on a “No jeans. No trainers” door policy. It’s in the first car you ever bought. It’s the dancefloor stains on a red tracksuit. It’s messy, it’s sleazy, it’s dodgy. It’s not hip hop, it’s electro.
In celebration of our first one thousand downloads, Freeta is happy to announce part one of a three part mixtape. The first part – codenamed “D” (which will of course be followed by “E” and “F” – imaginative, aren’t we?) deals with all things dubby. Loads of 50hz basslines, distorto-whipped delays and smooth chonking horns. Bump it outside, and enjoy. Also – our next instalment of the Season Sessions will be coming just as soon as Marx can find enough flat surfaces for his eighteen 1200s finish it off and upload it.
What? How is this possible? What happened to Spring? And wait a minute – it’s only March! Don’t worry, faithful Freeta followers, Marx, our suave, jet-setting flat wax handler took a short hiatus from the cold of Tokyo to the sunny shores of Australia. December here is cold, but Down Under it’s balmy and full of BBQs. This mix reflects that – a perfect journey through smooth LA funk, discoclash and blissbleep. Two seasons for the price of one.
